Textile Lab Consumables

Multi fibre Fabrics (ISO, AATCC,James Heal)

  • Multi fibre Fabric can be used as an adjacent fabric in many of the ISO 105C Series and E Series of colour fastness tests and also meets many chain store fastness test specifications. It is produced with a narrow weave construction and contains the following components: secondary cellulose acetate, cotton, polyamide, polyester, acrylic and wool. It undergoes rigorous quality control procedures, in accordance with ISO 105 F10, conducted by independent UK Accreditation Service accredited laboratories. All tests are carried out against a set specification and against a retained master batch at yarn as well as fabric stage. This ensures consistency of staining behaviour rather than simple conformity.
  • These items comes with confirmation certificates/MSDS wherever applicable.
  • SDCE Humidity Control Fabric

  • This is an azoic dyed cotton fabric with specified fading properties, which varies with the amount of relative humidity.

  • It is used as a calibration tool for light fastness testing. When the humidity of the light fastness testing machine is correctly set it will fade at an identical rate to the light fastness standard Number 5. It is supplied with a printed instruction sheet for its use to determine the correct settings for the relevant ISO 105 B series test method.

Phenolic Yellowing Testing

  • SDC Phenolic Yellowing Testing

  • Based on a method developed around 1985 by Courtauld’s Reseach this test can be used to screen fabrics for their susceptibility to exhibit Phenolic, or elusive, yellowing – where garments or fabrics exhibit yellowing making them unfit for sales without reprocessing.Through extensive sampling and testing procedures, SDCE products not only are guaranteed to confirm to the standard, they also have excellent continuity of performance from batch to batch over many years. Testing not only includes practical and independent performance testing but also quantitative analysis of the concentration of active ingredient on the papersDue to the limited shelf-life of the papers (3 months once the heat sealed barrier foil bags have been opened), SDCE pack all their papers in small pack sizes to reduce waste or the temptation to use up out-of-date papers. Also SDCE have developed a woven tape for the control fabric, this relatively heavy construction makes assessment and grading of the yellowing easier for the technician.

  • One of many colour fastness tests, this is a predictive test to assess the potential of white or pastel-coloured yarns, fabrics or garments to yellow (garment yellowing). Our Test Kit is the original, developed by Courtaulds Research, for investigating complaints arising from transit or storage yellowing. Beware of copies and counterfeit products, which do not produce accurate or consistent results or might cause health and safety issues.

Blue Wool Standards

  • SDCE Light Fastness Standards 1 to 8 each pattern 15x25cm

  • These are a series of 8 wool fabrics dyed with specified blue dyes to give blue wool cloths ranging from very low light fastness to very high light fastness. This forms a numerical scale of 1 to 8 where 1 has the poorest light fastness, to 8 which has the best light fastness. This allows fabrics to be graded, using a Grey Scale for Change in Colour, for correlation with performance in use. This is used to predict the suitability for a given end use; typically apparel would be a minimum of grade 4 whilst furnishings would require a grade 6. They are used in the ISO 105 B series of tests and can be used in conjunction with the Humidity Control fabric for machine calibration.

  • To complement the range of Blue Wool Standards we also supply specially prepared mounted card that is totally free of any optical brightening agents. This ensures mounted samples are easier to grade as the card does not show a significant Colour change. It is widely recognised that the Colour of the background can influence how an item is finally graded.

Smoothness Appearance Replicas

  • The six plastic replicas are each mounted on a black plastic backing and packaged in a hard storage case. The replicas are used to visually evaluate the smoothness appearance of fabrics after repeated home laundering. The replicas represent grades of 1, 2, 3, 3.5, 4 and 5 with 5 being the smoothest and 1 being the most wrinkled in appearance. Any washable fabric or textile product can be evaluated for smoothness appearance. Fabrics of any construction, such as woven, knit and nonwovens can be evaluated. The test methods allow the observers to assign the numerical grade of the replica which most nearly matches the smoothness appearance of the test specimen, or assign a grade midway between those whole-number standards which have no half-number standards separating them.

Thermo Strips

  • Thermo Strips are basically paper strips with temperature indications. These are very useful for measuring exact temperature during pasting fusible interlining in the garments. It is basically used for measuring hot roller nip temperature in any kind of machine.
  • Procedure Testing

  • Thermo Strips are placed inside the fabric where interlinings have to be pasted.

  • Then, the fabric is passed through the hot nip of the fusing machine.
  • One of the portions of the strips gets black in colour.
  • See the temperature written on that portion. This is the fusing temperature.

  •  Each scale can be independently used, minimising handling and possible soiling in use.
  •  Each scale has a nine-point gradation to provide more accurate assessment.
  • Comes in ISO standard (from S.D.C UK) and American standard from AATCC – USA.
  •  Helps grading the tested specimen after conducting the rubbing test (grey scale for staining) and wash fastness test (grey scale for colour change).
  •  Also used for colour matching with original specimen (grey scale for colour change ).
  •  Grading of 1 up to 5 can be done.
  • For assessing staining that occurs during fastness testing. Consisting of nine pairs of non-glossy grey or white and grey colour chips, which illustrate the perceived colour difference corresponding to fastness ratings 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1, with intermediate half steps in accordance with the requirements of ISO105.
